Frequently Asked Questions
Get answers to common questions about Perm.
A professional Perm typically holds its curl pattern for three to four months. Longevity depends on hair texture, growth rate, care routine and chemical history; proper aftercare can extend curl definition and reduce frizz.
We assess each client’s hair before proceeding. If hair is porous, fragile or recently relaxed/bleached, we may recommend conditioning treatments, strand tests or alternative styling to avoid damage. Safety and hair health always guide our decision.
Come with clean, product-free hair and avoid heavy oils or deep-conditioning for 48 hours. Bring photos of desired curl patterns and disclose recent chemical services so we can plan the safest technique and timing.
Avoid washing for 48 hours, use sulfate-free shampoos and moisturizing conditioners, and apply weekly deep-conditioning masks. Sleep on a silk pillowcase, detangle gently and limit heat styling to preserve curl integrity.
Perming extensions or mature locs is generally not recommended. Weaves and synthetic hair won’t take chemical curls; locs require specific techniques. Schedule a consultation so we can assess your extensions or locs and suggest safe alternatives like setting services.
Expect two to three hours for an average Perm appointment, including consultation, sectioning, processing and a finishing style. Time varies by hair length, thickness and desired curl size; more complex cases may require additional time.
